Do Not Despise Small Beginnings

Today's Question
What small beginning are you tempted to dismiss? How could that faithful step be one link in something God is building?
Reflection
In our recent conversation on the podcast, Carolyn shared about a young man who wanted to create visual stories with meaningful lessons. His current job seemed ordinary compared to the dream in his heart. But Carolyn encouraged him to be faithful where he was because God could use that faithfulness to prepare him for future partnerships.
She also shared how simply listening to him made an impact. He later told his mother, “She listened to me. She encouraged me.” That moment may have looked small, but it mattered. We do not always recognize the kingdom value of a conversation, an invitation, a completed task, or a quiet act of obedience.
Zechariah 4:10 was spoken to people rebuilding the temple, reminding them not to despise small beginnings. The work was not completed yet, but God was present in the foundation. Friends, the small thing in front of you may be part of a much larger work that only God can see.
Perspectives Into Practice
Perspectives Into Practice — Choose one small task or step you have been avoiding because it feels insignificant. Complete it with care and offer it to God as worship.
Also, encourage someone else who is faithfully beginning. Tell them specifically what you see God developing in them. Your words may give them strength to keep going.
