Christ, My Firm Foundation
~4 min read
Yesterday, my daughter Bryanna and I went to visit a waterfall. We spent most of the time looking for "really cool rocks". She found this really awesome rock with a white cross on it. I love that the white quartz line actually was translucent and the sun could shine through it. I searched and searched for a similar rock, but I couldn't find one.
When we started packing up, I picked up my chair and noticed that underneath it was a large rock about the size of a loaf of bread and it clearly had a cross on it! I was so excited I shouted "Look! Christ is my firm foundation!" Of course it was much too big for me to bring home.
This morning we attended church together. The message was from Matthew.
Matthew 7:24-27 NLT
[24] “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. [25] Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. [26] But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. [27] When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Well, isn't that just like God? But for me, the really cool part goes much deeper.
You'll notice in the first verse that it says that both of these builders heard the word, but only one acted on it and the other one did not. One builder was wise and the other was foolish.
I know this is a story that you've heard many many times just as I have, but today, what I heard changed my perspective.
You see the rains came, the winds blew, and the floods rose on BOTH HOUSES! Let me say that again, BOTH houses experienced strong adversity.
You see in our life we are going to have troubles the word says that, but it's our foundation, it's what we build our lives on, it's what we build our faith on that shows whether we can continue to stand.
With troubles coming at you constantly who are you looking to?
Is it the doctors?
Is it friends or family?
OR
do you have the "EVEN IF" mentality?
Even if the storms come,
even if my foundation is shaken,
even if the worst takes place,
who are you going to depend on?
Who or what is your foundation?
There's a really great song out there called "Firm Foundation " by Cody Carnes. (Of course, they closed our service today with it!)
Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I’ve never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
‘Cause He’s never let me down
He’s faithful through generations
So why would He fail now
He won’t, He won’t
Verse 2
I’ve still got joy in chaos
I’ve got peace that makes no sense
I won’t be going under
I’m not held by my own strength
‘Cause I’ve built my life on Jesus
He’s never let me down
He’s faithful in every season
So why would He fail now
Chorus
He won’t, He won’t
He won’t fail
He won’t fail
Bridge
Rain came and wind blew
But my house was built on You
I’m safe with You
I’m going to make it through!!
That second verse is so powerful to me. "I've got joy in chaos. I've got peace that makes no sense." Those are the strong indicators of a solid foundation.
As a home owner it's important to know that your foundation is built well. Then, when scary weather arrives, (and IT WILL) you can rest easy all night long.
What is your foundation built on? Do you have peace with your choice?
I pray that you are a wise builder that hears God's word and follows Him. 🫂🥰🙏
